Isn’t it a Pity

January 31, 2010

Not really what this post is about, it’s more about George Harrison, I’m just listening to this currently. From Plastic Ono Band:

Isolation – John Lennon

Thought I might post about George Harrison‘s All Things Must Pass today since I had Wah-Wah on repeat. In my top twenty of best albums of all time. (Not that I know what the other 19 are, I’d need to sit on it) If you need convincing:

Isn’t it a Pity (Version one) – George Harrison

Kind of crazy to think about how the album came out roughly 40 years ago when the mastering and music in general sounds better than almost everything that’s out today. Some random album facts: The Art of Dying features a 19 year old Phil Collins. “Jeep” was the name of Clapton’s dog that had been stolen (I Remember Jeep). The original sepia album cover was later reissued (in 2001) refurbished with color (but just bits of color..odd ones). Harrison’s album would replace Simon & Garfunkel’s Bridge over Troubled Water at number one. His album was ranked 437 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Wiki entry.

Let it Down (Additional Track) – George Harrison

You can buy the above picture at Morrison Hotel Gallery. Currently listening to I Live For You. Man.. amazing.

Buy the album here.

Well, well, well..

Tomorrow, In a Year

January 28, 2010

The Knife were asked somewhat recently by Danish performance group Hotel Pro Forma to write the score for their opera based on Charles Darwin and his book ‘On the Origin of the Species’… the music is a bit weird/unnerving but certainly that’s what they were going for (mind you, it’s awesome as well). The Knife collaborated with artists Mt. Sims and Planningtorock for the project. Click this to buy.

iBoard

January 28, 2010

Hmm… I’ll give it a few years.

I mean honestly it isn’t all that bad at a starting price of $499. Sure it doesn’t really have multitasking or flash or any usb drives, sure the largest gigabyte size available is a mere 64 GB, but I really think it’s meant to be more like a living room accessory for the wealthy more than anything else. (why else would it be so technologically incompetent). When I’m older and rich I’ll have one of each Apple product, and I doubt the latest iPad (I hate the word) will be an exception. Think of it like this: you and your family are all sat on the couch watching Rocky II and you want to know who wins the last fight before the movie has ended (assuming you’ve never seen Rocky II) Apollo or Rocky? Who is it!!??! You reach for your iPad to simply goog- wait – There’s an App-er, iPhone for that. I’ve rested my case. So useless. Come on Apple. Come on! It should’ve at least had a built in gun or something. (Having said that if I was loaded I’d probably still buy one)

(click play, then continue)

MP3: Don’t Forget About Me – Simple Minds

I mean it is exactly what Jobs says it is:

“Now each of us uses a laptop and a smartphone. The question is – could be something between them? A device for web surfing, working with e-mail, view photos, videos, music, games and reading e-books. It should be suitable for these tasks better than a laptop, and better than a smartphone. Some may be called netbooks. But they have one problem – they are not better than anything else. These small computers have low productivity, poor screens and working with standard computer software. We think that between a smartphone and the notebook should be something more interesting – iPad.”

Don’t forget about Apple, give Steve a couple months and I’m sure it’ll be up to par.

Transference

January 25, 2010

Of course I had to. Transference is such a great record.. Spoon never let down! You’ve probably already heard this one (what am I saying, of course you have):

MP3: Written in Reverse – Spoon

I really enjoy Who Makes Your Money as well, has an underlying deep-sea quality. (Does that even make sense?) Pick up Transference here.

The Brigitte Bardot Show

January 16, 2010

From Brigitte Bardot‘s 5th album, The Brigitte Bardot Show.. the album is one of my favorites from Bardot.. partly due to the recurring harpsichord bits (David B., Je Reviendrai Toujours Vers Toi) To be quite frank, I think more artists should frequent the instrument. (Completely unrelated but I also think more artists should consider using a Nondo more often.. because really, what’s the use in being practical.. it also sounds awesomely creepy) Buy the album here.

MP3: Harley Davidson – Brigitte Bardot

MP3: Saint Tropez – Brigitte Bardot

The album also includes, Contact. Here is the video:

I remember seeing Godard’s Contempt with Bardot last year, they showed the restored version at the TriBeca Film forum.. very cool. (Uninspiring ending, but alright otherwise.. er, perhaps I shouldn’t have mentioned that part!)
